Adaptive Training on the Rowing Machines


Our land training at the Longmont Sculling Club is about to begin in November. We will be offering four sessions, each 5 weeks long, for visually and physically impaired athletes. The indoor training will be at TwinFreaks CrossFit in Longmont, 101 S. Pratt St. Each of the classes are from 11:30 - 12:30 on Saturday mornings as outlined below. People can participate in one or all of the sessions for fitness rowing throughout the winter.

In the past, we have had many people transition from rowing on the machines to sculling on the water. I find it a very effective way to get people a head start when spring rolls around.

Session 1:
Nov 5 - Dec 17 (no class Nov 26 & Dec 3) - Saturday mornings from 11:30AM - 12:30PM at TwinFreaks CrossFit in Longmont. This session includes instruction for how to row on the Concept 2 rowing machines, workouts each week, suggested workouts for people if they want to work out independently during the week, and a 1k race at TwinFreaks on December 15th. Use it as practice for the Mile High Sprints or as standalone competition at the end of the first winter indoor rowing session. ($45 for entire session)

Session 2:
Dec 31 - Jan 28 which includes entry into the Denver Indoor Rowing Championship (Jan 27 & 28) - 1k meter race for adaptive athletes and many other options in which adaptive athletes are welcome to participate. People that participated in a previous session will continue training where they left off. New people are invited to join and will be given instruction on how to row on the Concept 2 rowing machine. ($45 for entire session including adaptive race at DIRC)


TBD - Mile High Sprints. This is a 1k meter race in Denver which is a Concept 2 qualifier for the CRASH-B sprints in Boston. Not included in Sessions.


Session 3:
Feb 4 - Mar 4 - This session includes instruction for how to row on the Concept 2 rowing machines, workouts each week, suggested workouts for people if they want to work out independently during the week, and a 1k race at TwinFreaks on March 4th. People that participated in a previous session will continue training where they left off. ($45 for entire session)

Session 4:
Mar 11 - April 8 - This session includes instruction for how to row on the Concept 2 rowing machines, workouts each week, suggested workouts for people if they want to work out independently during the week, and a 1k race at TwinFreaks on April 8th. People that participated in a previous session will continue training where they left off. ($45 for entire session)

Session 5:
Apr 15 - May 13 - This session includes instruction for how to row on the Concept 2 rowing machines, workouts each week, suggested workouts for people if they want to work out independently during the week, and a 1k race at TwinFreaks on May 13th. People that participated in a previous session will continue training where they left off. ($45 for entire session)

Sign up ahead of time or email Deb@LongmontSculling.com to let us know you will be attending so we can assure there are enough machines for everyone to participate and so we can know how to adapt the equipment to your needs appropriately.
